Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 October 2026

This page explains what information Tools For UK (toolsforuk.com) collects when you visit, what we do with it, and what choices you have. We run a free website of calculators, converters and planners, and we have tried to keep this policy short and in plain English.

In short:

  • You do not need an account to use any of our tools.
  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We use cookies for basic statistics and to show ads through Google AdSense.
  • If you are in the UK or Europe, non-essential cookies and personalised ads need your consent, and you can change your choice at any time.

1. Who we are

Tools For UK is a free website at www.toolsforuk.com. We are responsible for deciding how your personal information is used on this site (the "data controller" under UK GDPR). You can reach us at support@toolsforuk.com.

2. What we collect

We do not ask you to sign up, and we do not ask for your name or address to use a calculator. Some information is still collected automatically when you visit, and some only if you choose to send it to us.

  • Technical information: your browser, device type, operating system, IP address and approximate location (country or region). This is collected automatically when your browser loads a page.
  • Usage information: the pages you view, how long you stay, the site you came from and which tools you open. This is collected automatically through cookies and similar technology.
  • Messages you send us: your name, email address and whatever you write to us. We only get this if you email us.

3. What you enter into our tools

The figures you type into our calculators, such as a salary, a loan amount or a weight, are used to work out your result while you are on the page. We do not ask you to log in, and we do not keep a record of your inputs against your name.

Some tools, such as the BMI, sleep, water intake and life expectancy calculators, ask for details like your age, height or weight. These are treated in exactly the same way: they are used to show your result on the page and are not stored by us.

A few tools use an outside data service to work. For example, the postcode finder sends the postcode you type to a lookup service to get the result, and the currency converter fetches exchange rates from a rates provider. Please only enter information you are comfortable using in that way.

Please do not type in sensitive details such as bank account numbers, passwords or National Insurance numbers. None of our tools need them.

4. Cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device. We and our partners use them for three purposes:

  • Essential cookies keep the site working properly, for example by remembering basic settings.
  • Statistics cookies help us see which pages and tools are used, so we know what to improve. We may use Google Analytics or Blogger's built-in statistics for this.
  • Advertising cookies are set by Google and its advertising partners to show and measure ads (see section 5).

Under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), we ask for your consent before using non-essential cookies. Visitors in the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland will see a consent message from Google where this applies. You can accept, reject or manage your choices there, and you can change your mind later using the privacy settings option shown on the site.

You can also delete or block cookies in your browser settings. If you do, ads may be less relevant and some features may not work as expected.

5. Advertising and Google AdSense

This website is free to use because it shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google and its advertising partners can use cookies to show you ads based on your visits to this site and to other websites on the internet.

If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, ads are only personalised if you agree to it. If you do not agree, you may still see ads, but they will not be based on your browsing history.

You can manage or turn off personalised ads here:

Other ad vendors that show ads on this site have their own privacy policies, and we do not control the cookies they set.

6. Third-party buttons and widgets

Our pages may include content from other companies, such as social media share buttons (Facebook, X, Pinterest, LinkedIn, WhatsApp), a "Buy me a coffee" button, and fonts or images loaded from other servers. When these load, the company providing them may receive your IP address and set its own cookies. We do not control this, so please check the privacy policy of each service if you are concerned.

7. How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • run the website and keep our tools working
  • understand which tools people find useful and improve them
  • show ads that help cover the cost of running the site
  • keep the site secure and prevent misuse
  • reply to messages you send us

Under UK GDPR we need a lawful reason to use personal information. For statistics and advertising cookies, that reason is your consent. For keeping the site secure and working, it is our legitimate interest in running a safe website. For replying to your emails, it is our legitimate interest in answering you.

8. Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We only share it with:

  • companies that help us run the site, such as Google (Blogger hosting, Analytics and AdSense) and its advertising partners
  • the police, courts or other authorities, if the law requires it

Some of these companies are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, they rely on approved safeguards for international transfers, such as the UK's data bridge arrangements or standard contractual clauses.

9. How long we keep it

Emails you send us are kept only as long as we need them to deal with your message. Statistics and advertising data are kept by Google under its own retention rules, which you can read in Google's privacy policy.

10. Security

Our website is served over HTTPS, so the connection between your browser and our site is encrypted. We take reasonable steps to protect the small amount of information we hold, but no website can promise complete security.

11. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong
  • ask us to delete your information
  • ask us to limit or stop using your information
  • object to our use of your information
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it

To use any of these rights, email support@toolsforuk.com. We will reply as soon as we reasonably can, and within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

12. Children

This website is for a general audience and is not aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us their details, please email us and we will delete them.

13. Links to other sites

Some pages link to other websites, such as government services or official guidance. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their policies when you visit them.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add a new tool or change how ads or statistics work. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated. Please check back now and then for the latest version.

15. Contact us

If you have any question about this policy or your information, email us at support@toolsforuk.com. You can also read our About and Disclaimer pages.
